San Ramon FC player Alexis Berlin verbally committed to play collegiate soccer at the University of Hawaii, Hilo beginning in the fall of 2018. The University of Hawaii, Hilo is an NCAA Division II school and competes in the Pac West Conference. She’ll be going from the mainland to the islands to continue her education and her soccer career!
Alexis currently plays both attacking center midfield and outside forward. She began playing soccer at the age of 5 with San Ramon FC and has been playing ever since. She has also been a multi-sport athlete, playing both basketball and lacrosse, while continuing to play soccer.
Alexis credits San Ramon FC’s coaches and staff for helping her realize this opportunity:
“I would not have been able to fulfill my dream of being a collegiate soccer athlete without the help of my Coach Andy Mittler. Coach Andy helped me develop as a player and individual by always pushing me to do more. I would also like to thank Travis Clarke [SRFC College Coordinator] for his guidance and relentless efforts to help me find the right school. Thank you to San Ramon FC for making my dream a reality.”
Any player seeking to improve and play at the next level of their sport must commit to hard work. They must pursue their goal with determination and dedication. A player must make the decision to work for it. Alexis is a good example. Our club’s coaching staff and our College Coordinator, Travis Clarke, are here to support the development of our players and to help them get to their next level of play.
Coach Mittler shared his thoughts on Alexis’s verbal commitment:
“This is a great opportunity for Alexis. She has made great strides in her game. Her technical ability, work ethic, and athleticism should benefit Hilo from the first day and we look forward to watching her make an impact at Hilo. Alexis was really dedicated to playing in college and I am glad she is getting this opportunity.”
To get an opportunity to play in college, a player must be a student-athlete. Academic skills are also required. Alexis worked hard in the classroom too. She has received the San Ramon FC Scholar Athlete Award each of the last three years.
While Alexis’s decision is an individual one, she received a lot of help along the way. She is quick to thank many others for their support, including her friends, teammates, and her family. This summer she’ll begin her final season with San Ramon FC as a member of the 00G NPL team with Coach Jon Lipsitz. She’ll start her senior year at California High School in the fall and intends to play on her school’s varsity soccer team as well. She has been on Cal High’s varsity soccer team since her freshman year.
